EA lost a super executive in John Pleasants. They also 'lost' face in the general coverage of this event. Brown's insistence on painting John P's move as a result of EA deciding to hire back the other John reeks of furious story rewriting on EA's part - very ungracious and poorly played. It is always a pleasure to see successful c-level execs, like John Pleasants, eschew the safety in numbers of a large compay like EA to apply their skills where they can do some good: at nimble, innovative start-ups. Dean: your article above seems to think it is odd or even bad that Pleasants has left a 9,000 strong company, well, it's bad for them...it's pretty good for Pleasants. EA has reached a level of bloat that retards its innovation. Like MSFT, EA may have enough mass to maintain a significant presence for a while longer, but I don't doubt that smaller companies, like Playdom or SGN will be able to outshine EA in brilliance and share.
