Former Rockstar developers form 4mm Games startup

Jamie King and Gary Foreman, co-founders of Rockstar, the maker of the Grand Theft Auto series of games, have launched a new game studio, 4mm Games, to focus on making web-based video games.

The New York-based team has a bunch of talent and is funded by investment firm CEA Autumn Games.

King will be president, while Foreman is chief technology officer. Chief executive is Nicholas Perrett, former general manager of face-animation firm Image Metrics. Paul Coyne, former senior vice president for the Warner Music Group, is executive vice president.

King first started work on 4mm Games when he left his job as vice president of product development at Rockstar in 2006. 4mm hasn’t said how much it has raised, nor has it disclosed what games it has in the works. Perrett said in a statement that the web is disrupting the existing value chain and enables new types of business models.

The Rockstar leaders helped oversee the development of titles such as Grand Theft Auto, Midnight Club, Max Payne, and Bully — titles that have sold more than 70 million units. CEA Autumn Games is focused on investments in games and media. It is a joint venture between Communications Equity Associates and Autumn Entertainment Partners.
