hey Mr. Joe if by any chance u get tired of hammering all the GTA4 CDs and there are still some leftovers. kindly mail me a copy of GTA4…just kiddin guyz cant wait to get my hands on this epic. specially when i just upgraded my rig btw my all time favorites are GTA3 and GTA Vice City.

blah’s point is wonderful. There isn’t anything to argue about here. Basically everyone (who is in touch with reality) gets it. Games are either fun or they’re not… they have no influence on anyone other to either alleviate boredom or not. The issue here is… is GTA4 a GOOD game! My hopes are very high as GTA3 (the original) was easily one of the top 5 games of all time, in my opinion, and the previews for 4 look absolutely stellar.

This game is really blown out of proportion. The game is rated M, but I agree that some people who are mature can easily handle it. That is up to the parents to decide. Its no different than when parents let their kids watch rated R movies.

GTA IV may be violent, but to tell the truth, there is much worse out there.

This is a “M” (adult game) pure and simple. Not saying that some kids under 17 can’t handle the content. In general 17 and over is fine if parents think that their kid should have this game then don’t turn around later and blame the game for whatever they might do!!!! My little man will not be playing nor watch me play this as he does with other games. If you think that it is to much dont buy it.

I have’t played the game yet and I am planning on buying it this afternoon during my lunch. I was raised playing video games starting in 1984-85 when Nintendo came out. These types of games only made me smarter and improved my hand eye coordination. Hey guys, remember Mortal Kombat???? Yes, that was bad at that time but we all still played it. I don’t know about you but I never tried yanking someones spine out via the head. It’s all about parents, people! Those who don’t tell their kids that its not real will end up with crappy children killing real people. Not only is it the parents fault kids are killing people, but it’s also the kids faults too. Most young kids make fun of the “losers” for not being cool. That takes a toll on a young mind and it screws them up forever. I guess it stems back to the parents! Be that as it may, I have a kid who always plays video games with me and he will definitely be playing GTA IV with me.

There’s actually been studies done (and a book written, but I’ve forgotten the name) that proves that kids who don’t play video games are more likely to go on some crazy crime/killing spree. This is because big game releases like this are a social event. When every kid is playing the game, they talk about the cool things they did in it all day at school, and the kids that don’t play those game (because mommy and daddy decided to coddle their kids to much and make them relient on their parents) get left out and hate the world.

okay, i already know i’ll get fried for this but oh well:

i’m the mom of a 14 yr old. we play GTA3 together all the time. i’m about to go buy GTA4 before i go to work in a minute, so i have NO problems with violent games, obviously. i think that if you’re a good parent, you’re not relying on your kids getting their morals from video games and movies but instead are teaching all of that to them yourself. and when they have a good solid base to grow from that you’ve given them, something like a video game isn’t going to change how they feel about life. besides, video games have a lot of redeeming qualities – for instance, GTA3 has some great plot lines that actually have some moralistic outcomes. and those radio stations are brilliant social commentary (and are hilarious!) i think video games have helped my son along the years – with coordination skills, cognitive thinking skills, and definitely with socialization with others.

having said that:
ANDY, DID YOU HAVE TO MAKE FUN OF DARFUR AND TIBET??? i agree, obviously that guy joe is a DUMBA$$. but making fun of real, horrific human suffering kinda is proving some ppls point about video games causing the ppl who play them to not value human life anymore.
seriously, i was with you until that point…

just do me a favor – go watch a documentary or read a book about those topics or something so that you can see that caring about what goes on there doesn’t make you some over-protected whiney idiot who doesn’t shower or wear shoes…
